Ajna, the sixth chakra, also known as the third eye is the pineal gland, a pea-sized gland shaped like a pine cone located in the vertebrate brain near the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. Its significance appears in every ancient culture throughout the world as it is a revered tool of seers and mystics and considered to be the organ of supreme universal connection.
Ajna is related to clarity, concentration, imagination and intuition as it has no filters of past, expectations or judgment.
Its colour is indigo and the element it is associated with is light.
When the third chakra is weak it may cause: sinus or ear problems, poor visual perception, headaches, weak concentration, nightmares, non-assertiveness, fear of success.
When the third eye chakra is hyperactive it may cause: attention deficit disorders, sleep disorders, manipulative behaviours, spiritual arrogance, high sensitivity to others feelings.
